Around the League in 80 Seconds

Cornell has released its two-deep for its opener on the road at Bucknell this Saturday night. The only surprise was not seeing outstanding sophomore quarterback Stephen Liuzza anywhere. No one expected him to leap frog Nathan Ford as the #1 QB, but his super speed made him a dangerous backup last season.

Dartmouth's full game notes and two deep aren't out yet, but this release says senior Tom Bennewitz has won the starting QB job over returning junior Josh Cohen, who I thought was going to get the nod.

The folks at Princeton always do a nice job with their game notes, and this week is no exception. There are no surprises in the Tiger two-deep, but I guess it's interesting that both starting tailbacks from last year, Rob Toresco and R.C. Lagomarsino, are starting again Saturday. They both struggled in several games, and it was a testament to the Tiger defense and QB Jeff Terrell that the team won as many games as it did and a co-championship with such a sub-par running game.

Yale's notes are also out, and I'm bummed that the erudite are articulate Stephen Schmalhofer is not starting on the defensive line, but I think he is a pass rushing specialist for the most part. Also interesting is the fact that Yale has a couple of converted defensive linemen starting on the O-line this year. Sound familiar? Columbia has had to do that several times over the years, including last season when then-senior Usche Osadebe moved to the O-line despite making All-Ivy the year before on the defensive side.

We're still waiting on Columbia, Harvard, Brown, Penn and Dartmouth for their full game notes.
