A Note on Injuries...

It hurts when you talk about it

If you've ever wondered why Columbia and the other Ivy schools are so quiet about injured players and their status, there's something important you should know:

Injured players at the college level are a sensitive commodity because all of them are not professional athletes and almost all of them are still legally minors. There are some serious privacy issues at stake and what most coaches do, (even many at BCS schools), is keep injuries quiet until the release of the two-deep a few days before each game.

This is terribly frustrating for most fans, but it does serve to remind us that these kids aren't slabs of meat.

But I don't want to alarm anyone unnecessarily. I have not heard any reports of major injuries other than Craig Hormann's ACL, and I expect him to be starting sooner rather than later.

Any reports on what actually happened on Friday? The score was obviously hugely one sided, and there was the horrific 7 hour bus ride, but did we hold out a number of starters who were nicked up? I saw from one report that we played virtually everybody, including a number of first years, but we shouldn't have let the score get out of hand. Also, when will NW post the 2 deep? Is he going to keep CH out until the Ivy season begins?

Fordham lost at home to Albany last night; the score was close but Albany gained 500 yards on offense.

Usually the two deep is released on the Tuesday or Wednesday before each game. But there may be a few "game day decisions."

Harvard was able to pass at will against our secondary. However, Drew Quinn and at least two other defensive starters did not play. We we able to do very little on the offensive side of the ball, but one or two starting linemen did not play. The only good thing was our 50 yard field goal. Well done.
