It was 20 years ago today...
I'd be remiss if I did not remind everyone that today is the 20th anniversary of the streak-ending win over Princeton that sent the Columbia campus into a sports-induced frenzy, (yes, frenzy).
Let's celebrate the anniversary with a win on Saturday!
OH! And check out this picture from the Princeton Town Topics web site. Hmm... looks like the Tiger offensive lineman is holding Owen Fraser to me.

What "folks in the national media" are referencing the streak?
It was discussed in a story sent out on wire services picked up by, among others, the Detroit News and the International Herald Tribune.
Did anybody hear the Columbia Lions football allusion on ESPN the other night. They were comparing the 0-4 Lions (NFL) with Columbia in the 80s. The team could easily be sporting a 3-0 record right now. Check out this blog that covers one of the top places Columbia recruits. They've taken 5 football players from this school, La Costa Canyon, over the past 6 years - amazing...

Did anyone attend the update meeting on the $100m athletic fund raising campaign last Friday? How far are we from building the new football building to replance Chrystie?
Dr.V
Yes I was there. Although the building is still at the conceptual, or broad rendereing stage; they hope to have it complete by August 2011. It is amazing! This will be a great recruiting tool.
Please clarify. Do they hope to have the concept completed by August, 2011 or have the building completed by then?
I hope it's the latter.
The Chrystie "project" is going to be a major renovation as opposed to a scrape/new build. More cost effective.
That said, there are plans to create a new facility in the 218/Broadway corner of the property that houses a bunch of other sports along with offices for the sports dept.
They plan on the date of completion being August 2011. All the major players are in place! Of course they are still raising money! Check it out and make a donation:) !!!
The new building will have an amazing weight room with the offices around them. There will also be a huge gathering room/theatre that can be sectioned off. The building will have a grass area roof and walk straight out to the field. No more up and down steps to the locker rooms. The new building will not connect to Chrystie, which will be renovated. Sorry, I should have been more clear.
My understanding is that the goal is to complete the construction of the new facility by August, 2011. In addition, the Chrystie Fieldhouse will be completely renovated by a yet unannounced date. Very exciting plans that will greatly benefit all Columbia teams, including, of course, football.
I think a new building would be great...but as a former player...having to get a workout in 100 blocks away from campus may not be the best on the schedule. Are there no plans to improve facilities on the main campus?
