"Eight" Gets its Due!

Erik Greenberg Anjou tells me that Eight: Ivy League Football And America, the documentary he made with writer Mark Bernstein, will be broadcast for the first time Nov. 1 on NESN, the New England Sports Network. It will re-air about 6-7 more times on that network after that. Check your local or satellite listings.

I will also be interviewing Erik live at halftime of the Columbia-Penn game at Franklin Field on 10/18.

Here is my review of Eight from when I saw the film back in April, and here are some ideas from Erik about making Ivy football stronger.

Who kicked the 45 yard field goal against Princeton in the junior varsity game. Is that guy capable of helping the varsity on kickoffs?

No disrespect, jake, but "The Eight" was a bit of a reverent snooze. Overly genteel, and watching it one would simply wonder why Harvard-Yale was once rightly called "The Game" for all the excitement the movie musters for Ivy play and even for football in general.

Perfect for PBS or for screening with the sound off in the lounge at the Princeton Club, maybe, but otherwise not all that gripping.
