The View from the West

Servite High School is the home of the Friars

Well, nobody likes to be left out when it comes to deserved accolades. Not long after I posted the story about St. Xavier's convincing win over Dematha, some West Coast high school football fans alerted me to the high quality of play in Orange County, especially in the Catholic schools out there. One proud Californian recently sent a letter to Servite High School to talk about how five of the 10 Orange County natives playing Ivy ball went to that high school. One of them is our own sophomore Ray Rangel, who I expect to see a lot more of in 2007.

Hey, I'm all in favor of a little regional rivalry among the Columbia players if it makes them work that much harder to prove they're the best.

This past Saturday North Penn High School (Mike Partain and Pete Stoll’s alma mater) played St. Joe’s Prep (Andy Shalbrak’s high school). North Penn defeated St. Joes Prep 17 to 7. These two schools are usually nationally ranked, but, they haven’t played each other over the past 7 years.
