The next hurdle for the Columbia Lions is the classroom

The hard part of training camp is over for the 2007 Columbia Lions as classes begin tomorrow on campus. Next up after that is Friday's scrimmage at Harvard, which usually just makes me nervous as I just pray no one gets hurt.

Hopefully, the coaches will have some time to look over the film of Fordham's win over Rhode Island to see if the Rams are for real. URI is usually not very strong on defense, so it's possible the game was a bit of an anomaly... especially Jonte Coven's 189 yards rushing.

Cargile Cut

As someone has already posted in yesterday's comments section, Steve Cargile '04, has been cut by the Denver Broncos. I'm actually shocked after the kind of stats Cargile put up in the preseason games. He did get signed to the practice squad, but I hope some other team will sign him to the regular roster.

Michigan still Moping

I've been remiss to discuss the biggest football story of the weekend, which was Appalachian State's shocking win over Michigan at the "Big House." I thought ESPN.com's headline of "House Broken" was the best way to describe what happened. I'm very happy to see an FCS, (formerly Division I-AA), team beat a top 5 BCS team, especially since the big schools schedule these games as "sure things," but still charge full ticket prices, etc.

It think it should be noted that no players quit the team during training camp. The first time in over 20 years.

I believe that's the classroom at the front of Uris Hall, a business school building

Jake, I'm really annoyed at the so-called experts on the voyforums board who continue to give us no respect. For example,on the basis of one game against a weak Rhode Island team we have people who are picking Fordham to beat us. There is just no evidence to support the persistent Columbia-bashing. People still don't "get it" about this staff and this team.

No point in getting upset. Actions will speak louder than any words.
