Three More
John Keefe
The effort to replace once-in-a-generation wide receiver Austin Knowlin ’10 got off to a bit of a choppy start last season.
Two pickups for the class of 2015 should help the effort.
Choctawhatchee High School's John Keefe is 6-1 185 lbs. and North Allegheny High School’s Dan Slivka is 6-3 196 lbs. Both seem like good wide receivers from excellent high school programs.
Keefe is the first documented Choctawhatchee grad to come to the Lions.
Slivka would be the second North Allegheny alum to play football for Columbia, the first since John Hite ’83.

You can see Slivka’s highlight video here.

And long-rumored to be coming to Columbia, 6-1 180 lbs. Mike Skalitzky’s commitment to Columbia is now confirmed. Skalitzky will reportedly play DB for the Lions.

If Skalitzky, who looked very good at RB on his tape, is being tabbed for DB, then we must have some really good RB recruits, although none are listed so far. As usual, that's our position most in need of quality depth. Here's hoping...

Has anyone confirmed yet that the five seniors listed on the new 2011 Columbia Football Roster have been cleared to play next year? Someone mentioned six, but I only count five--Mike, Mike, Nico, David and Paul. Having these guys back would be freat for Columbia Football.
I agree with the poster regarding Skalitzky who looks darn good at running back on film. If he's slated to play defense, then there must be a couple of really good running back recruits. As for the three known incoming wide receivers, you have to love their size and athleticism. All three guys will be great targets in the red zone. All three have the potential to be very good receivers at Columbia.
Schools still call their teams "Indians"?? As in people from India? Or could they possibly be referring to the native Americans?
What do you say, Jake, how about the Jersey Jews?
Diane Murphy NOT leaving Columbia for Army A.D. position.

I would LOVE to see a team called the "Jersey Jews!" Come on, we Jews have been desperate for 4,000 years to find a few fans.
Dianne can't leave until WE get a Football championship!!

Jake, there was a Jackie Mason gig years ago in which he had what he called the Jewish American Football League: teams had names like the Chicago Dentists, the New York Accountants, etc.
Dan Slivka comes from a great western PA School in North Allegheny. They were Quad-A PA State Champs this past season and are always near the top in just about every other sport. He will be a great addition to the lions.
How about the Yeshiva U. Maccabees, Columbia's neighbor (mostly) to the north? Close as you'll get!
By the way, there was a time Columbia used to get some colorful suggestions in that vein when playing at Georgetown -- especially the Dave Newmark teams. Another Jewish CU player got so fed up, he waited for a break in the action, stood in front of the home stands, and invited Hoya fans to come on the court and repeat their heckles. Shut them up -- for a little while, anyway. Rohan said he hated playing there back then.
Re bad venues for Jews, Fordham bb games at Rose Hill in the 60s were just awful.
Jake, did you attend the spring game last Friday evening ? Any thoughts or assessments of what you saw ? Did you meet any if the incoming freshmen ? Do you think any of them will have impact next fall ?
