Two New Names

I have a lot to write about yesterday's memorial service for Connie Maniatty, but let me bring you news of two new incoming freshman and get back to that later.
First we have a truly extraordinary young QB from the Los Angeles area, Marquel Carter of Culver City High School. Carter is a gifted student who speaks fluent Japanese .
On the field, he threw for nearly 2,500 yards and 27 touchdowns, adding 12 tackles and three interceptions on defense. Marquel was recruited by Nebraska, Utah and received offers from Princeton and Cornell. And a University of New Hampshire website claims he verbally committed to UNH earlier this year. As some readers have pointed out, when we can attract players from what has been one of the best FCS programs in the country, it certainly feels good.
Some of the recruiting websites I've seen project that Carter will play as wide receiver in college.
Second, we have wide receiver Tyler Kirkland from Orlando-area Lake Highland Prep. Here's a look at Tyler's recruiting video and you can see a nice picture of him here.

I'm really pumped by these two new recruits. PS, Jake, have you apologized yet to foehi and Asia Sunset for your intemperate remarks about the Penn Athletic Department? And have you apologized yet on behalf of all of us for our band's behaviour in causing Penn to lose to us at home last Friday?

Marquel Carter is a very talented student-athlete who will thrive at Columbia. From what I have been reading about him today, he reminds me of the great Archie Roberts. However, I doubt that Archie was fluent in Japanese.

Carter reminds me of another terrific Columbia student-athlete from L.A., the one and only Marcellus Wiley. Go Lions!
Per New Hampshire site, he had orally committed to UNH in early Feb, so he obviously had an offer there too.

When we get to poaching guys from New Hampshire, then we know we're really getting somewhere. A very impressive group of skill position players is coming in, maybe the best Lion group ever all at one time.
Speaking of poaching, Bags isn't finished yet. Until these young men are signed, loose ships sink ships.
