CU-Princeton: 5 Keys to the Game
1) Beat the Tiger Linebackers and Safeties
It's a tall order, because this is the strength of the team. The front three on the defensive line are suspect, but the talented linebackers can easily come up on the line and plug any potential holes in a hurry. QB M.A. Olawale and the offensive line are going to have to wear these guys down with successful options, pass plays that get out of the pocket and good old fashioned power runs right up their faces.
If the safeties come up on the line to either help the front three or cut off M.A.'s running to the outside, then Olawale needs to burn them with tosses to secondary receivers like TE Andrew Kennedy all day.
2) Put Pressure on Tommy Wornham
Wornham is a new QB just learning how to be a starter, and tomorrow can't be the day he learns how to do it. He can run well, but shutting him off as a passer with constant pressure is a necessity.
3) Don't Let Culbreath's Understudy Become a Star
The Lions can't let up simply because starter Jordan Culbreath won't play. Whoever gets the most carries tomorrow as his replacement has a great chance to make a name for himself with even just a decent performance tomorrow. Columbia can't let that happen. Without Owen Fraser it will again be tough to bottle up the run, but the Lions need to find a way.
4) Don't Let Special Teams Kill Us
The Lions need to be perfect on PAT's and at least avoid getting field goal kicks blocked all day. BOTH the kick and punt returns on our end need to be a weapon again, and Columbia can't let Princeton enjoy a short field by not covering its own kicks well.
5) Play the Whole 60 Minutes
Funny things tend to happen to the Lions when they play Princeton. No matter what the score, the Lions need to keep the intensity going until the final gun. No let downs!
And if all else fails... try this!
