News from Coach Wilson!

MEDIA DAY UPDATE #3

Head Coach Norries Wilson had some news for us in his opening comments today:

1) Millie Olawale is the #1 QB now. It appears it's his job to lose.

2) Coach is very happy with return of 18 out of last year's 22 top starting players.

3) Rising sophomore Jeff Adams is the presumptive starter at left tackle, sounds like the coach has big hopes for him.

4) Coach likes Matt Moretto coming back at linebacker for this year. He expects him to battle 5th year senior Corey Cameron for the starting slot.

5) Wilson joked about having Austin Knowlin take his own snaps and throw the ball to himself if necessary. He says they are looking for every way to get him the ball.

6) Kicker Joe Stormont is gone from the program. So it'll be nerve-wracking to have to have a freshman handle possibly both kicking and punting.

7) The media questioners are all focusing on the multiple QB system at Columbia last year, even though Coach Wilson is emphasizing he wants just one QB this season.

8) We lost Drew Quinn to graduation, but he's confident they've found a good replacement, (presumably Marc Holloway, a spring practice standout).

9) Lou Miller gets lots of kudos for pass rushing, but he's a great weapon against the run too.

Yikes Jake - except for Freshman, no kicker? What about Mazur? I know he was on and off the team... can we get someone from the soccer team - seriously.

no need to respond ASAP, thanks for the updates!

I think Jon Rocholl was a 4 year started at P/PK (as was Nick Rudd before him) .We have had good luck with frosh kickers. (I also think Taylor Joseph was the backup punter at one point ) .

Bad news about Stormont, but very good news about Moretto and Cameron. Moretto was a strong player as a freshman and Cameron is very tough and talented. As for the kicking game, I doubt that we need to look to the soccer team for help inasmuach as we have three very promising kickers--Guttas, Weiss and Williamson-- in the incoming freshman class. Just a great opportunity for those guys to see immediate varsity playing time.
