Day 42: Miro Lovric

Miro Lovric switched the goalposts for the scales of justice

Miro Lovric '83 may have been the biggest beneficiary of the John Witkowski '84 era at Columbia. With all the touchdown passes and great drives Witkowski engineered, Lovric's leg really got a workout.

Lovric was really Columbia's first true soccer-style kicking star. He showed his stuff on the varsity as a junior in 1981, (when Witkowski only got limited playing time), hitting a then team record 11 field goals in the single season. He was named to the All Ivy Second Team.

1982 was another good year for Lovric, even though wide receiver Bill Reggio '84 led the team in scoring thanks to 14 TD catches and two two-point conversion grabs. Lovric went five for seven on field goals, but a much more impressive 21 of 23 on PAT's. Once again, he made the All Ivy Second Team.

Today, Lovric is busy putting the bad guys behind bars as he works as the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York. His district includes Ithaca, so perhaps he can help us out if a Big Red lineman gets out of line during our game there on Nov. 14th!
