Respect... it's in the family

Craig Hormann's brother Drew is headed to Miami University in Ohio to play... baseball. He pays great tribute to his older brother in this article in the Indianapolis Star.

One more...

"Depth, depth, depth" is the "location, location, location," of Ivy League football, and that is why I celebrate every new name on our roster. The latest addition is Mike Antonakakis an incoming frosh punter/kicker from Tampa. Welcome, Mike!

Stanford's Football Blues

Several Ivy fans have already found and discussed this story from the San Francisco Chronicle, but check it out if you missed it. Basically, Stanford is having a tough time dealing with its academic requirements and the fact that it competes in the tough PAC-10 in football and basketball especially. No one wants to see academic requirements relaxed too much, but did Stanford really suffer in the early 90's when its football team was strong? And didn't the Cardinal just make the Final Four several years ago? I'm sure there is some wiggle room they're just not exploring in Palo Alto.

Heard through the Grapevine...

And I can't name any names, but I am getting more and more reports of Lion players working their butts off and bulking up this summer here in NYC. Expect to see some serious weight gains for key defenders when they release the updated roster figures sometime around training camp. Training camp begins August 19th.

You are correct about a number of players working out together, both in the weight rooom and on the field. some of our guys have gotten much bigger and stronger. Also, try to check out NW's football camp this summer. It is a great way to check out potential recruits.

This team is making a serious effort to have a organized and concentrated summer program for all players. All players including incoming first years have a workout routine to follow with weekly checkin with the staff to show what they have done, from lifting, running, diet, bed time, everything. Also to build team comradarie and spirit they must check in with an assigned group of players weekly by phone. Like I say this is a coaching staff like we have never had at CU.

Thanks for the added details. Yes, the days of seeing a solitary player practice his three-point stance on South Field are long gone. This group is doing all they can within the rules to work together this summer.

What exactly are the "rules" regarding summer team workouts?

I think you can't have on-the-field scrimmages, and there may also be a cap on how many players there can be even at informal team meetings. There's probably something about it written on the NCAA website or someplace like that.

All programs have summer lifting and conditioning programs for their players to take on, in order for them to be ready for organized practice that will start in accordance with the NCAA rules.

Any talk about NW having something in Manhattan this summer for alumni who crave information about the upcoming season? Any work on Jake's radio gig? If you get it, I hope that you can get some air time during the week for interviews.
