Mangurian Newser Highlights

Well, it's 2:25 and all I've seen so far is a blank screen.

Serves me right for not being able to make it in person.

I tried.

They can not be serious.

If you go to the gocolumbialions website you can see the press conference (I just caught the ending of it )

A bit off on the timely streaming video. Still, high hopes stoked for success on the field....

Fantastic performance by Pete. Just fantastic. I was ready to charge up San Juan Hill after hearing him.

I was able to watch it after entering the website; the video screen on the splash page wouldn't load.

Excellent presentation by the new coach. The video of his talk should be a recruitment tool. He made a very good impression on me as someone seeing him for the first time. You have to believe he will be very credible on selling his player development skills given his wide football experience.

President Bollinger, Dean Valentini, Bill Campbell, the football team, and various other folks in attendance.

I got a blank screen too, though I was a bit late. Took forever, then finally saw people streaming out of the conference. Hope they'll replay it. Can someone give a report?

I agree that Pete Mangurian gave a fantastic presentation. He's a great speaker.

Pete was impressive, in great shape for 56, maybe a touch scary for the players. I wish he had said something about making their football careers at CU an enjoyable experience instead of focusing so exclusively on winning. When he said they would be accountable for everything including their off-the-field behavior, I'm not sure Ivy Leaguers need to hear that; he might have come off a bit rigid and overly demanding. On the other hand, he did say flexibility is important, so maybe that will apply to his interpersonal style as well. Whatever, he's certainly serious about the whole deal. Will be very interesting to see where we go from here.

Mangurian is a much better speaker than any of the Republican candidates for President of the United States. And he already has more affection for Columbia than the current President. Fantastic speech!

Anonymous who posted at11:59:00 AM PST, It takes a demanding coach to run a college program, especially after all this, as any player knows with winning comes enjoyable football experience, he doesn't stray from the cold hard facts.. and a great speaker honestly

You have to be demanding, and have high expectations if you expect to turn this program around like he said, "we have to work faster and harder than other teams to not catch up but get ahead"

He was better than Sylvester Stallone in Rocky! If Joe Girardi could speak anywhere as well as Pete, the Yankees would show his video on the centerfield scoreboard when they fall behind.

Liked what he said about our football team establishing its own identity and "not walking in anyone else's shadow."

The Westchester Journal-News let a story of the new lion coach slip through to print.

Given Mangurian's excellent football coaching experience and smarts, the only question I had before his presentation, was whether he was a good communicator. I'm not worried anymore.

I do not fault one bit his call for excellence. We live in a competitive world. Work hard, and by the rules, which is what he preaches. Our goal is winning with young men who demand of themselves the same degree of excellence which we demand of them. these young men wantto be led by a man who can not only talk the talk but walk the walk. He looks and sounds like a leader of men, and that is what our young men need. Nice family from what I can tell, which also matters.

The promised streaming video was not available at 2 PM. 2 hours later, access on gocolumbialions is still not apparent. What gives?

Talk is fine, let's see the W's. He is not being hired for to give academy award speeches. He is being hired to win football games.

The video could not be seen on the screen provided, you had to go in through another portal in the website (forget how I did it)-- a screw-up, not the greatest way to kick things off, but talks by Mangurian and Murphy were fine, and I'm sure can be seen in their entirety later when they figure things out.

I think Coach Mangurian is an excellent, poised and confident speaker. I especially liked it when he said"We will not be defined by our past, we will learn from it and move on".I also liked the fact that he did not speak directly to the media and administration, he continually looked to one side and addressed the team. Sure he made it sound a little scary, but I'm sure the team understood that they have to work to win and be successful. He said that football was no different than anything else you put effort into to succeed. My first impression is that he wants to be here, and feels gratitude in being chosen to coach at Columbia. GO LIONS
