Work in Progress

I was able to attend today's scrimmage, (or most of it), against Brown at Wien Stadium.

My general impression is that the team is about where you'd expect them to be at this stage, struggling to get in sync just like the NFL teams are about halfway through training camp.

I actually thought the headline of the day came from the other sideline. Brown's #1 QB Kyle Newhall-Caballero is definitely a championship caliber player. The Bears may be the winners in the Ivies' "Who has the best brand new QB sweepstakes" for 2009. Everyone who saw him play today was impressed.

Incidentally, the "final score" was Brown 24 Columbia 13, with the Lions winning the battle of the 2nd and third teams and Brown looking crisper with the first teams.

Meanwhile, Brown should see if it can sublet some property in New York this season because this was just the first of four trips to this area this season for the Bears.

After this scrimmage, Brown returns to New York for the season opener at Stony Brook, (about 45 minutes east of my house). A few weeks later, they're back here to play Fordham. And then the season finale is a return date at Wien against Columbia.
