Day 15: Tony Petras '95

Good offensive lines play as unit, not as individuals

Craig Valentine '96 and Randy Murff '97 were two pieces of the great offensive line puzzle that helped the Lions to their strong stretch of seasons in the mid 1990's.

Tony Petras was another piece of that puzzle and he literally led the way as the Lions recorded their first winning season in 23 years during his senior season.

Petras came to Columbia from Old Forge, Pennsylvania to play on the defensive line as a freshman in 1991. But the coaches moved him over to offense for his sophomore season and he started to excel at tackle.

Like so many of the Lion stars of 1994-96, Petras was able to shine through despite Columbia's disappointing 1993 season. He won a spot on the Honorable Mention All Ivy team and great things were expected from him in '94.

Tony came through with a First Team All Ivy campaign, joining the six other Lions who made 1st team that season.

Petras, Valentine, Murph. Names you should know, because they not only belong in the lexicon of great offensive lineman in CU history, but they are so unique because they played together.
