Winner's Brackett

Sean Brackett stretches for a score (CREDIT: Norwich Bulletin)

One of the top-rated high school quarterbacks in Connecticut is coming to Columbia. Sean Brackett is described as an elusive scrambler with a keen sense of what it takes to win.

Here's another story about Brackett's exciting final high school football game.

Fraser Gets Hometown Props

Freshman star nose tackle Owen Fraser is featured in an article about several upper Hudson River-area high school students who have "made good" as college athletes this year.

The same paper has another piece today about a female track star from Monticello High School who is also coming to Columbia. And one of the reasons why she chose CU was our school colors!

I knew the light blue would come in handy sometime!

Sean Brackett is going to be a very good football player at Columbia.

Next year the Lions will have a very strong running QB in Olawale, a very good passing QB in Bell, a pretty good combo QB in Kelly (remember how good he looked in the first few games?), and a potentially top-notch combo QB in Brackett, plus Havas, Linehan, and whoever else is recruited (maybe DeChiara, an all-star from Nico Papas' school BB&N?). We will not be lacking in depth and talent at QB.
Big question remains, to complete the picture, can we recruit or develop a dominant RB? Eddie Houghton, are you listening?

Is Papas a good candidate for RB?

I just read that Bergen Catholic's star running back, Nick Gerst, has committed to the Lions. That's great news for Columbia football fans as we certainly missed having a breakaway runner on the field this season. Of course, Zack Kouroumna showed signs of becoming a star runner, himself, so the possibility exists that we may have a very exciting offense next year. Along with Gerst, I would like to see the Lions recruit a couple of lightning quick wide receivers and a big running back like the guy you mentioned, Eddie Houghton.

Can you post the link or tell us the source for the news about Gerst?

There's a terrific Nick Gerst highlight video on YouTube (8 minutes). I tried to post it but can't...check it out.

Someone else reported the news on the Voy Forums Board. No idea where that person saw it, but the news about Gerst's Columbia commitment was published December 3rd in a very nice story about Nick in North Jersey.com. Our very helpful friend, Asia Sunset, has also noted still another recent commitment from Dallas Hartman, a 6'5",240 tight end from Pennsylvnia.

Amazing that Penn has given us both Foehi and Asia Sunset, the Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker of the Ivy Sports Board. May the Force be with us!
