2 Down...
Lincoln Way East HS, home of the Griffins... and Brendan Mulheran
Thanks to a commenter to the previous post, we've enjoyed a 100% increase in our number of known incoming freshmen.
So far we have:
1) Nico Pappas FB Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, Massachusetts
2) Brendan Mulheran, LB/FB Lincoln-Way East, Illinois
Lincoln-Way East is a perennial national power in high school football. I'm not sure, but it appears Mulheran was a senior in 2006, so it's possible he took a P-G year somewhere. At 5"10, 180 pounds, he seems like the perfect fit at free safety or spur linebacker in the CU system.
One that Got Away... Sort of
A talented kicking prospect from Northern Virginia, Ronnie Shaban, won't be playing football at Columbia, but he's still coming to Morningside Heights to play... soccer. Oh well, it's certainly not a total loss.
I expect to see a total of 28 officially recruited freshmen by the end of May, so we have 26 names and more than five months to go.
Back to Round Ball
I'm looking forward to seeing the men's basketball team in action again today at home versus Lafayette. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out of Levien Gym without spending more than $20 on goodies for my daughter!

FYI, Jake, Ryan Sutherland is yet another outstanding two-sport athlete from Virginia (Courtland) who will be attending Columbia next year. Sutherland has already committed to wrestle at Columbia. He's an outstanding wrestler who has been ranked as high as eleventh in the United States. He was also a very good football player in high school--all district defensive MVP--but I read that he does not intend to play football at Columbia. Ryan's Published Stats: 6'1" 225, 4.15 GPA, 2070 SAT. Congratulations and Best Wishes to Ryan and his family.
Jake, the Illinois prep site edgy tim showed Mulheran as a OL signed in 07.
Jake, if you were at today's game perhaps you can explain how we managed to collapse against a team tha Wagner beat about as handily as we beat Wagner. Big Ben and Baunamm were just awful. In fact, I am starting to wonder if we are being outcoached. We had no answer whever Baumann got the ball,as two defenders immediately collapsed on him. We had no inside game.
never say never on kicking prospect who will be playing soccer. Kurt Dasbach who will live in infamy as the wide left kicker as time expired against Dtmouth to end the streak in 88 was a standout CU soccer player.

Who is Shaban?

We need to concentrate on recruiting linemen, both defensive and offensive. We desperately need more impact players at these crucial positions, and I don't we'll get very far next year unless we bring in 10-15 quality line recruits, with the hope that 3-4 are ready to play next fall.
Agree with poster on linemen recruiting...critical for the Lions to improve next year and beyond.
From the Chicago Sun-Times: Jeff Adams of suburban Lyons Township "...could attend Columbia "
addition to previous post:
Jeff Adams, of Lyons near Chicago, He was the right tackle, is 6-8, 270-pounds. Also starts at center on the BB team, and has been the leading scorer in some games.
