Hello, Neighbor!

Alex Rivas, (left), is Nassau's top high school footballer (CREDIT: Newsday)

East Meadow is the town next to my home of Bellmore, and it's also the home of Nassau County's best football player, Alex Rivas. Rivas has won the Thorp Award and Columbia is one of the schools actively recruiting him.

Rivas is one of those combination fullback/linebackers you often see at the high school level. Hopefully, the Columbia coaches will persuade this smart young man, (1300 on his SAT's), to become a Lion.

High School Confidential

I'm a little late with this info, but Drew Quinn and Lou Miller's high school, St. Xavier, won another Ohio state football championship last week. Thanks to Ed Quinn for passing this info along.

Jake cant do anything about Rivas unless he breaks all of the NCAA recruiting rules.

Jake is resourceful. He'll find a way.

I respectfully disagree with the poster who said Jake cannot do anything about Rivas without breaking all of the NCAA rules. Through his "Roar Lion Roar" blog, Jake is already making a huge contribution to Columbia Football with the positive publicity he is giving the Columbia Football program and potential recruits. Of course, neither Jake nor anyone else other than the coaches can contact Rivas, but my understanding is that if and when that happens, and Rivas applies to Columbia, Jake can write as many stories as he wants about Rivas.

I'm havng trouble with the edgytim link. Please let us know the prospect's name. If he's a linebacker from Illinois, I hope it's "Werthman."

Recruit is Brendan Mulheran, LB, All-Conference on state champs Lincoln-Way East. Not big, 5'10, 180, likely spur in Lion defense.

Somewhat confusing information on Brendan Mulhearn. The EdgyTim story I found this evening indicates that he was a 2007 verbal commitment to Columbia. Are you sure he's a recruit for the Class of 2008.

Columbia Football Recruit: For your information, Jake, Rivals.Com published a story earlylast month on Harnish Ayora, a running back from Arizona, who indicated he had high interest in attending Columbia. I believe we offered him as well. Do we know his status?
