Quick Notes from up North

I'm in Toronto for the next few days, so blogging will be lighter but hopefully not less informative.

A moment we've all been waiting for has come as they are updating the player weights on the roster at GoColumbiaLions.com. It's not complete yet, but some of the numbers are encouraging, (check out the numbers for Ralph DeBernardo and Mike Brune, the starting tackles... both are up 10 pounds or more).

Enjoy!

Do you assume the numbers are accurate?

My son was weighed-in and measured last Sunday. His numbers listed on the roster are accurate and are exactly the same as numbers that were recorded on Sunday.

Since you're in Toronto, Jake, I'll do some of the math for you. The projected five starters on the interior offensive line now average 287.7 with Partain (288) DeBernardo (291), Brune (288) Walcker (287) and Seiler (283) Troy Evangelist is up to 259 at tight end. The biggest player on the team is freshman offensive tackle Carl Constant at 6'3 315 with senior offensive tackle Stefan Savic next at 6'7" 301. As noted on the CU website, Brandon Veldman has intentionally lost weight--50 pounds--and will building himself back up. Soph offensive tackle Will Lipovsky is up to 6'6" to 274. Running back Jordan Davis, who is up to 200 pounds himself, must love these numbers.

Not to mention Andy Shalbrack, up to 205! (gain of 17 pounds). Lou Miller up to 220 (and probably looking to start). Also Ray Rangel up 10 to 196 and 2nd team sophomore tackle Will Lipovsky up about 30 pounds. I hope these guys can still run with all the added weight. If so, watch out.

O-line is bigger, stronger and faster this year. Combined with improved TB size, the run game will be much improved. One big edge in the run game is our tight end group. Big runs that can block AND catch keep the defense honest. Is Veldman in camp?

I heard Shalbrack was down today with some kind of knee problem. Hope it's not bad. Adding seventeen pounds is quite a bit in one off-season, hope that's not a problem on his knees

Thanks for the concern....
I spoke to Andy last evening and the knee issue should not be worried about. He is ready for practice today n full pads.

In regard to weight gain, he worked out at the "Summit" in Philly this last summer with many professionals and college players and the weifght gain is through weight and speed training. He has never been more agile and his speed is not compromised.

Your son is a terrific player--one of the best I've seen in thirty + years of watching Columbia Football. Smooth defensive back with great instincts. I'm glad he's okay. Go Lions!

As of today, Aug. 25, only the Marist game is listed as a live telecast on the video subscription site. I assume all home games will be on it. Know of any aways?
