The Lions defense was again dominant as Columbia recorded its first shutout since the 1998 Homecoming opener versus Harvard, (that score was also 24-0). But the offense, especially the running game, was still suspect in what has to be a disappointment as the Lions head into serious Ivy play.
The defensive line and linebackers were unusually strong, as they held the Gaels to an incredible negative-16 yards rushing. They also recorded six sacks. Iona's passing game was a little better, but never did the Gaels seem even close to scoring.
Some of the offensive highlights were six catches for 84 yards from Nick DeGasperis, who set up the offense's lone TD with a catch at the Iona five; a ball he held on to even after taking a massive hit. Austin Knowlin had some nice grabs including a one-yard TD pass from Hormann.

Jake, you've been very kind. Although the offense moved better than against Princeton, which was a much stronger team, it was still pathetic. Without effective blocking up front, the running game will continue to be virtually non-existent and the QB will need to scramble in order for us to score points against other Ivy opponents. If our offense can't score more than 6 points per game it's going to be a long season. Scoring of today's game: Defense 14, Kicking Game 6, Offense 6.
You know I basically agree. For the offense, this game basically amounted to a mediocre practice. We need a running game. It was so bad that even when we went with a no-back offense, it was better because our runners weren't doing much to fool the Gaels anyway. Coach Wilson has got to get this problem fixed or Penn will kill us. On the other side of it, the Quakers will get a rude awakening from our "D".
