If any of the players are possibly reading this, please listen: these coaches are going to be gone in a couple of days, there's nothing they can do to you anymore.

I strongly urge you to REVOLT against them during this game, especially at the start of the third qtr. Sean, call your own plays. In fact, everything Vinny Marino calls, do the OPPOSITE.

On defense, blitz on every play. Just keep coming after 'em.

This will require the team captains to take control. Ross and Nick need to guide the "D" and call the formations and personnel.

Sean and Bob need to run the offense. Mike too, of course.

This is your game guys, these coaches are not your friends, (with 2-3 exceptions of course, but Norries and Vinny couldn't care less about you guys, otherwise Vinny wouldn't have treated you this way, and Norries wouldn't have tolerated it).

Take this game over for yourselves!

You are MEN!

This is YOUR team, not theirs.

Tune out NW and Vinny and go out there and WIN!

If there is a coaching vacancy, this program needs to hire a coach who has a history of resurrecting a program or programs at the Div II or FCS level as a HEAD COACH.

Successful coordinators at FBS schools may not be good head coaches (have we not learned this). We cannot afford a successful FBS head coach. Hiring a high school coach is way too much of a high risk gamble.

We need to find a young tressel at the Youngstown State stage or a Jim Kelly when he was coaching an fcs school in Michigan. Some of these guys are around in FBS now schools as coordinators or position coaches.

I had previously suggested Greg Gattuso as one such example. He turned lowly Duquesne into perennial conference champs and took them to FCS champions. This at a school without football schoarships at the time and at an academically strong college. He then became a position coach and head recruiter at Pitt with great success at his responsibility and is currently a position coach at Maryland. This is just one example. In response to my suggestion, some rocket scientist posted "hmm..... Maryland's defense is horrible". He is a position coach in a new regime! Give me a break.

The other option is to outspend a current ivy, patriot or other academically strong school and steal their HC. However, I would make sure that this coach is leaving his program much better than he inherited it and you are catching him on the rise with incremental successes.

The FBS is under fire and the days of scholar athletes at this level are long gone. There are coaches at this level, who have had success at the FCS level in their past, who miss coaching kids for the love of the game where the stakes are for academic pride and personal growth and not millions of dollars and tv ratings. It is not campy to declare the Ivy and leagues like it as the last chance or savior of college football in it's purest form. CU can attract someone like this at the HC level who has the pedigree and motivation to lead them to greater success.

Go Lions.
Beat Brown.

seniors being announced pregame. I count 18 players in jerseys without pads, all injured presumably. Wow!

Who is in charge of the camera work on Lions Pass? It is usually pretty good but today it is absolutely horrendous. They've already missed a couple of plays and it's only 8 minutes into the game.

this is the most conflicted I've felt in a long time. If a lions win means Norries stays... I'm rooting against my lions? then again chao, popeck, mistretta & co. deserve at least one win their senior year.... heres the kick...

The win today had nothing to do with the coaches and everything to do with a fed up group of dedicated players who wanted to go out as winners this year. And that they did. Now that the boys are reenergized...let's find a new coaching staff to keep it going next year!

Chen '82.....exhausted but satisfied

I am in Vermont....a bit jetlagged from recent flight back from HK.....debated with my wife about driving to NYC...she asked what our record was, which ended the debate.

Shit....would have seen this exciting win live instead of on laptop! What a dramatic win.

Congrats players...you deserve this.

Can I suggest that we dedicate all comments at least for next few days to these players (especially seniors) and this gutsy win. They deserve it and we owe it to them.

Great win team! Probably one of the most exciting games I have watched in a long long time at any level. Nothing like a stemming the Brown onslaught...staging a comeback, double overtime, Brackett broken tackle TD runs and gritty goal line stand to defeat a well coached 7-2 Brown team.

Outstanding!

We have been talking for six or seven weeks on this blog about a coaching change. All of us lion faithful know what needs to be done and should have been done a year ago, but for night let us just talk about this win. This win was significant, because it avoided the obvious for the first time since 1987 and more importantly was for the seniors and their families. It was also one of the more exciting games in recent memory. As they say in sports, this is why they play the game!

Will the NYT even have a story on the win, being so interested in the band.

Give it a rest will you. Telling the kids to revolt? That's classless. Good for the kid to go out with a win. I also notice that it was very quiet immediately following the game on here.....what's up guys you only post when its a loss and you can bash the coaches?

Really going to be interesting to see Jake's final Power Rankings. He's going to have to justify separating some teams, rather than just list them by record. :)

shame on you....there is no conflict...you always root for lions to win, full stop. Forget the coaching situation and always get behind the team to win. It's that simple.

Just a magnificent effort. Brackett took over in the 4th quarter and played with great courage and tenacity. Superb goal line stand to end the game.

And another thing....

If we all can post a 100 comment string on coaches, let's show the team we can show equal and unreserved joy at the defeat of a top tier Ivy team

One of the most exciting games I have ever seen! AJ Maddox keeps us in the game with the huge pick. We stop them at the 2 in the 3rd quarter, keep hanging around and finally Brackett takes over at the end. David Chao, Mike Stephens, Ryan Murphy all made big plays. A great win!

ROAR LION ROAR!

I would hope we could put the talk about the coaching staff to rest for at least a day. This was a great effort and an amazing win against a top tier ivy team.

One of the great Columbia wins of all time- reminds me of the win over Dartmouth in 1971! Congrats to ll the players and coaches!

What a game- i listened on the radio! This is something to build on- Not sure it makes sense to change coaches after such an upset- I for one would give him another year to see what he can do.

I agree with some of the posts let us take a break for one night on the coaches and talk about the seniors and this win. Is this in top ten of all time columbia finsihes!

Wow- very tired but happy- I was up there- last minute. This is a big win fro the football program and now we will really have to think hard about the future and who is the right person to lead us- maybe it is someone else or maybe it is NW without his assistants. Any way if this was his last game- what a way to go out and I cannot remember the last columbia coach to win their final game- certainly not any one in the last 50 years maybe Lou Little?

I agree with the other posts we finally have some good news and this bog is quiet- rather than celebrating. If it means the coach comes back- so be it- we will deal with that another day- i was there and this was a great win regardless of who the coach was. One of the most exciting Columbia games I have attended along with the Brown game in 96 and the one two years ago. Well done lions!

I wasn't going to attend the game because I was so discouraged by the coaching situation. Obviously, I'm glad that I changed my mind. What a wonderful victory for the kids on the team. What a joy to see their celebration after the game. But please stop suggesting that this one victory justifies retention of Wilson and his staff. If I thought that the new standard of excellence for Lions football was one win per year, I'd give up.

There were just too many heroes to count. hugestop by Childress and Groth to end the game; guts, pure and simple, won that game. Those kids could hace quit at several points but a the end their collective will prevailed.

Hearing the posts today reminds me of what the game is about. Great job seniors! Chen said it the best. And today wasn't the first time a Columbia coach won a finale. Brown 2 years ago at home remember? Great win for the kids and coaches.

Coach Brinson,

The commenter was talking about the last time a coach won in his final game ever at Columbia. That would be 1988 when Larry McElreavy guided the Lions to a big rout over Brown at Wien Stadium.

What a blast. Lost my voice. Boys are pumped. Coaches were great in post-game locker. Well-deserved after a tough season. I am so happy for all of them. An infectious atmosphere that would populate if it were the rule and not the exception!

What a win!! This shows the Character of the Columbia football player. A season w/ a few breaks, could have been much better. At 0 - 9, they could have packed it in. What heart these kids showed. Very proud of every one of them.

Great win for the kids, the coaches, and for those of us who care about CU football.

How did Bollinger look at the end of the game? Was he excited, too?
