*=transfer from Texas A&M
The only two names I didn’t catch before today were Eric Stock and Garrett DeMuth.
Stock is a DL from the Pingry School. There isn’t a lot of info out there about him other than the fact that he also excelled as an offensive lineman.
Pingry was where Columbia snagged our fine captain Chris Carey ’04.
Stock seems to fit the bill for the big-sized interior defensive linemen so many Lions fans have been clamoring for lately.
DeMuth’s very personable highlight reel, (where he introduces himself on camera off the top… a VERY good idea), is here.
DeMuth is listed for us as a TE, but he may be coming here for long snapping especially.
Some other changes and questions answered:
-Transfer Wells Childress is indeed another large-sized body coming in. He’s listed at 270 lbs. There had been some speculation that he was more like 230 lbs.
-Sean Coffinger is coming in slotted as a TE, not a DL.
-Kal Prince is listed as 6-2, not 6-4. That’s a big difference in college football. You don’t see too many QB’s taller than 6-3 in the Ivies. Of course, that doesn’t mean he won’t be a great player for us.
-Ijeoma Odigwe goes by the name “EJ.”
-16 of the 29 incoming players are the FIRST documented freshmen to come to Columbia football from their respective high schools. They are Colton Bishop, John Brady, Wells Childress, Sean Coffinger, Garrett DeMuth, Alec Fisher, Percee Goings, John Keefe, Josh Keiles, Ej Odigwe, Carey Parker, Kal Prince, Roy Schwartz, Michael Skalitzky, Malcon Thaxton, and Ryan Thomas.

Although it is unlikely, of course, that many of the incoming freshmen will see varsity playing time this fall, we only have three returning players at the tight position so our two incoming freshmen tight ends, Sean Coffinger and Garrett DeMuth, have a decent chance of seeing some varsity action in 2011. Coffinger and DeMuth both appear to be very good all-around athletes. In Coffinger's case, he played basketball as well as football in high school. Incidentally, he was listed as being 6'5" tall on his high school basketball roster. DeMuth played baseball in high school. I wonder if there are any video highlights for Coffinger. Anyway, for fans of the tight end position, like myself, these guys have some potential, which is nice indeed.

Solid group of defensive backs in the incoming class. There should be an impact player or two in the group. Seems certain that a couple of the db's will be returning kickoffs and punts for the Lions. Thaxton and Michael S. do a lot of things well on film.
Tom Callahan is up to 290 pounds. I believe he played at the same school as Jeff Adams, our two time first team All Ivy League Offensive Tackle. It would a great story if Callahan succeeds Adams at OT. Good luck to them both!
