From the Secret Files or Roar Lions Roar!

Roar Lions Roar has spies everywhere.

Covert operations are very important us.

After all, former Lion QB “Wild” Bill Donovan founded the CIA.

And now, I am pleased to share with you the spoils of one of our most fiendish operations… a look inside the very inner sanctum of our enemy from Cambridge!

Look closely at these photos while you can.

Meanwhile, I am attempting to contact our agents currently sifting through Al Bagnolis laundry hamper.

This message with self destruct in 5 seconds…

Excellent new biography of Wild Bill Donovan was published a few weeks ago. It's a real page turner. One thing about donovan that I found distressing; he sent his son to Harvard. How many times do we see our alums of years past send their children to HYP? My own chauvinistic instinct is to treat that as a breach of my social compact with Columbia, but I don't profess to be neutral on the subject. And in a lifetime of practising law with a major Wall Street firm, I have come to believe that our graduates stack up extremely well against graduates from our competitors. Go Lions!

In terms of recruiting, CU will always have a disadvantage to get the very top Ivy recruits over places like Harvard--Harvard's faciilites are simply overwhelmingly more attractive--look at their incredible stadium. Having said that, The Campbell Center is an exciting new addition, and the willingness and desire is there with the CU Athletic Dept, so there is a strong upward trend to look forward to. But--back to my opening point--if we want CU to be more attractive to recruits we have to OVERcompensate for our lack of glitzy facilities, and win them over with something else. One thing for sure would be a celebrity coach the next time around. As much as I believe Norries Wilson is doing an admirable job, I know that someone with a bigger name and pedigree would suddenly transform our program overnight, and turn the best athletes to sign up immediately. It is simple math. If Greg Schiano (to use a grandiose and impossible example) suddenly took the job, recruits wouldn't care if we played on concrete for our practices. Of course, those like Schiano wold want to be paid 3 million dollars, but there are other great names out there. I heard recently that Mike Singletary once asked if he could coach COlumbia a few years ago, as we didn't take him(!)

I think that Norries Wilson is a terrific recruiter, a good coach, and a wonderful human being. I have gotten to know him by placing some of our guys, and I can tell you that there isn't a more decent, caring man anywhere in college football. We can count our lucky stars to have him, and the wins are going to start to come this Fall. A guy like Bags or Murphy can't hold a candle to Norries when it comes to treating his players. And this may come as a surprise to some people, but not everybody wants to go to Harvard. One of my dear friends, a Harvard graduate both college and law school, has told me many times that if he could do colletge all o over again he would pick Columbia over Harvard in a heartbeat.

I have attended games this past year at Harvard and Yale. The Yale Bowl is a dump! I spent an hour after that game pulling splinters out of my granddaughters hands. Filthy and inconvenient bathrooms. Let me tell you Harvard's stadium wasn't much better and we saw a guest fall on those goofy "seats they had. dark dungy place. I much prefer Wein for cleanliness, staff and convenience over their stadiums.

Agree on the Yale Bowl; haven't been to Harvard Stadium in a hundred years. A trip to the communal urinal/outhouse at the Yale Bowl is like a third world experience.

This could be seen as insensitive, but I played at one of the "other" ivy league schools, and as a player, you don't care if your coach is a human being if you win ivy league titles. I'd rather go 7-0 in the league with a great coach who may not be caring, then 2-5 with a bad coach who cares about you

In addition to new facilities, any plan for the Baker field site should include additional on-site parking .... if Christie Field House ever gets renovated, Columbia should consider putting in double decker parking between the Field Hose and the stadium ...

Apparently, according to the board in the first shot - these Cantabs have to be reminded to beat the teams they are playing. Sounds like a good game plan. LOL
