Radio Days
As many of you have probably already heard via this announcement, I have indeed been chosen as the color commentator for Columbia Football for the audio/video feed on www.gocolumbialions.com and on an as-yet-to-be-named AM station in New York. I will be joining the skilled play-by-play man Jerry Recco of WFAN, who proved his talents last season while doing CU football and basketball games.
First, let me not make the same mistake Jay Leno made when he finally got the Tonight Show. I want to acknowledge the top-notch work Rick Mantz did as the color commentator last season. I am only replacing him because he is going back to coaching high school football; he will be the head coach at South Brunswick High. South Brunswick's gain is Columbia's loss, but I hope to be able to fill his shoes and give long-time Lions fans a voice of their own in the broadcast booth.
I also want to thank the many readers of this blog who openly campaigned for me to get this job, and the ones who supported me in other ways. I am forever grateful to you and I hope I don't let you down.

Congrats, Jake!
Best part is that radio looks like its free on gocolumbialions.com this year, too
Yes, audio will be free. Video, (and it'll be worth it), will be for an added charge. But everyone will get something.
Congrats, Jake!!
This is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G news..
we are so excited..
thanks for all your great work.
Countdown to kickoff: 47 days!!
are we ready?1?
Columbia has always needed a "homer" in the booth. Just kidding. What we need is someone who is passionate about the Lions and the program, and we now have that. You have clearly demonstrated this in this blog and your fans appreciate it. The radio gig will further enhance the marketing of the Lions to those who will listen in. Congratulations. This is well deserved.
Congratulations, Jake! I was hoping that your Monday announcement would be that you got the radio job. Looking forward to hearing your broadcasts.
I assume the athletic department is happy with your blog and wants you to keep it?

"At last I have reached the top of the greasy pole." Benjamin Disraeli, upon ascending to the rank of Prime Minister. And as Disraeli himself might have said, a hearty mazel tov!
Congratulations, Jake...well deserved - you've been a joy to read both here and at Voy. I'll definitely be listening.
BTW, are you still teaching at NYU? My youngest will be enrolling this year. She'll be a Gallatin Scholar.
I'm taking this semester off at NYU, but hope to return in the spring.
Thanks for all the kind words.
Hearty congratulations!! great for us, too. Any idea if the free live webcasts will mean KCR won't do them on FM? the Web?
Congratulations and well-earned. Also a smart move by Dianne Murphy.
2 CU Football Season Tickets = About $95 on Mastercard.
Listening to Jake do the color commentary on radio = Priceless !!
Congratulations...great news for all and another indicator that positive things are happening. Being new to Columbia's football family, we got to this site by chance when looking for the meaning of "recruited". It's been a terrific resource ever since! (Too bad we couldn't just easily link up months ago via another Columbia main site.) So, keep up the excellent work here and we look foward to hearing your voice in 47 days!
In this alum's opinion, your selection is further evidence that the Columbia football program is in very good hands with Dr. Murphy heading the athletic department and Coach Wilson and his staff running the football program. You have to respect them for many reasons including, their ability to recognize incredibly talented people such as yourself and make sure that they are fully welcomed into and become an integral part of the Columbia Football Family. Congratulations, Jake!
Go Jake!!!
Yes, congrats and then more congrats. You clearly deserve this honor. Now do us all proud!
