With spring practice about to begin, keep an eye on the Columbia football roster for changes. Usually, just the weights get updated but we may see some new names and lose a few as well.
I know the weights of our returning defensive linemen are a big concern for many fans so we’ll be watching any changes in that area especially closely.
For the record, the average weight right now for the 13 returning Lion defensive linemen is 252.5 pounds.
By contrast, defending champ Penn has 17 incoming returning defensive linemen averaging 249.1 pounds.
So take all of this stuff with the necessary grain of salt.

One thing to look at is the average weight of the starting DLs not including the ends. Penns were averaging in the 270s last year. Columbia was averaging in the 240-260range. The bigger DL players were not starters. Major difference when you are against OLs averaging 290-310.

I wasn't trying to "bust" Jake. Those numbers are based on the rooster. We actually had one starter that was in the 220-230 range even though his weight on the rooster is 245. He was an impact player especially early on and should be again this year if utilized properly. Speed is one thing but when you start talking abot 60-80 lb difference in weight you have issues.
If the impact DL is Ben Popeck, I understand that he worked hard in the weight room and that he is 250+. The coaches love his attitude and work ethic.
Spec is reporting that on eof our football players was suspended for trafficking in false IDs. Que pasa?
