Insurance Policy

Credit: Columbia Athletics

M.A. Olawale '10 should find out in about two days whether he has made the roster for the Arena Football League’s Philadelphia Soul.

In the meantime, he’ll need to find a second job whether he makes the team or not.

So, it’s a good thing that the team held a job fair for the players where I would assume Olawale really stood out.

If Olawale does make the Soul and gets a chance to play, it would be a wish granted for me and many other Columbia fans who never really got to see him play when he was fully healthy. Most of his time as a starter for the Lions was marred by one injury or another.

I can certainly appreciate M.A's desire to give it a shot; otherwise, he will always regret that he didn't at least give himself a chance to see what he can do before he gets out of condition and/or commits himself to medical school.

Here's an article that says that Fullback Steven Silvio of Sprain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama is headed to Columbia University. Powerful blocking back from the same school as our standout freshman linebacker Zach Ollinger. He's listed at 5'10, 235.

Silvio looks like the FB who was a senior at Penn last year. I watched his videos. The kid blocks like a Mack Truck and moves the pile when he carries the ball. this is what we have needed: a crushing lead blocker for the two back set. Great news!
