Still a (British) Columbia Lion

Tad Crawford was taken yesterday in the 3rd round of the CFL draft by the reigning Grey Cup champion B.C. Lions, (that's British Columbia to you CFL neophytes). Tad has reportedly added 10 pounds to his 2006 playing weight of 180 pounds, and that should serve him well in the wild and fast CFL.

My friend and colleague Bruce Wood of Big Green Alert found this nice article on Crawford in the Vancouver Sun.

Despite the many honors that came his way, including selection as a 1st Team All-Ivy player at the end of this past season, I don't think it's clear to most Lion fans just how important Crawford was to this team. He basically started all four years, and led the team in tackles year after year. He kept us in games when we were competitive, and and at least helped to stop the bleeding when we weren't. And truth be told, I'm very worried about Columbia's ability to replace his steady tackling in the defensive backfield next season. Best of luck to you Tad, and you know we'll really miss you on game days.

A great 4 year player for us. One play this year stands out; a leaping interception in the north end zone in the Cornell game, as I recall. He looked like Jason Sehorn in his prime. PS, is Musgrove playing this Fall?

Yes, Crawford punctuated his great career in his last game at home with that pick. CU scored a TD on the very next play.

I haven't heard anything about Musgrove and I have to assume he's not coming back. Very, very tough loss for the Lions for what appear to be solely personal reasons.

I believe that Musgrove may be back in school and if he doesn't play this Fall will be able to play in '08.

Well, that would be super news either way. Chad is a tremendous athlete. I hope whatever kept him off the field has been resolved. I he can play this coming season, Columbia will have a super defensive backfield.
